With legal challenges mounting and public sentiment deeply polarized, the Trump administration's hardline stance on immigration continues to generate intense debate.
The United States has initiated what is being described as the largest deportation operation in its history, arresting 538 undocumented migrants and deporting hundreds more. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the operation reflects the administration's commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises.
In a statement on the social media platform X late Thursday, January 23, Leavitt announced,
The largest massive deportation operation in history is well underway. Promises made. Promises kept.
This extensive operation, launched just days into President Trump’s second term, underscores his pledge to crack down on illegal immigration.
Leavitt confirmed that military aircraft were utilized to carry out deportations but did not disclose the specific destinations of the flights.

However, the scale and speed of the operation have sparked significant backlash, particularly following reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducting raids without warrants.
Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka was among those criticizing the operation, stating,
ICE agents raided a local establishment… detaining undocumented residents as well as citizens, without producing a warrant.
Meanwhile, President Trump has signed several executive orders aimed at addressing immigration, including declaring a “national emergency” at the southern border and deploying additional troops to the region.
In support of these efforts, a Republican-controlled Congress recently passed a bill expanding pretrial incarceration for foreign criminal suspects, further reinforcing the administration's aggressive approach to immigration enforcement.
