Wizkid's mother is dead



Nigerian music sensation - Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, is mourning the loss of his mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun. According to a statement from an unverified source, Wizkid's passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, after battle with a prolonged cancer disease.

Wizkid’s manager, Sunday confirmed the sad news Vanguard news papers on Saturday.

Born Ayo Balogun on the 26th of July, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Wizkid grew up in a polygamous home, a Muslim father and a Christian mother (late) 64 years old. She breathed her last in a London hospital where she was receiving care at the time. Wizkid had been supportive and unwavering in his care and attention, devoting significant time to his mother during her time of illness.

Wizkid is known to always placing his mother in the highest regard above all other things, and her dead has left the 33-year-old father of three deeply shattered. He is currently in mourning alongside his two sisters - Yetunde Balogun and Lade Balogun

In an interview that took place in 2014, Wizkid's mother - late Jane Balogun expressed her deep love for Wizkid, her only son among her father's thirteen children. She had continued to show her support to support the music sensation by attending his concerts until the time of her dead. In her own words during the interview, "I’m so glad that he is my son, and that I’m his mother. I give God all the glory. God has kept him for us, and He will continue to."

In contrast to Ayo Balogun global nickname, she often referred to him as IB-Boy, a shortened version of his Islamic name, Ibrahim.

The late Mrs.  Balogun left three children behind with Wizkid being one of the three children. The others are Yetunde Balogun and Lade Balogun.
